Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm is a 3D cel-shaded fighting game and the first Naruto game on the PlayStation 3 platform. Developed by CyberConnect2 and published by Namco Bandai Games, Ultimate Ninja Storm was released in North America and Europe in November 2008 and Japan in January 2009. The game was first unveiled in 2007 and codenamed Naruto PS3 Project, finally to be changed to its current name.
Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm retains many of the gameplay elements and features found in the first three Ultimate Ninja installments. Although there is no online play, extra support characters, alternate costumes, and new missions are available on the PlayStation Network as downloadable content. Unlike its predecessors which use a two-dimensional fighting system, Ultimate Ninja Storm allows players to fight in completely three-dimensional environments. The game's campaign loosely covers the plot of Naruto up until Sasuke's defection from the Konohagakure in episode 135. Between storyline missions players can free roam Konoha and complete alternate missions which reward mission experience, money, and other valuables.
